2 Ways to Style a Monochrome Caramel Outfit

Updated: May 21

Scarf: The Scarf Bar / Earrings: Swarovski

Isn't warm caramel a delight? As a color, it's a playful spin-off of neutral beige.

In this article, I'll show two different ways to style a monochromatic caramel outfit. Both looks would be perfect for a brunch date with hubby or friends.

The headscarf

My headcovering is a square scarf from The Scarf Bar in the color 'chestnut'. It's generously sized at 40x40," and made of a smooth rayon blend. The edges are folded and stitched into a delicate 1/8" hem.

The video tutorial

Watch the 20-second tutorial on tying this scarf into the bun style pictured above.

Underneath the scarf I'm wearing: a velvet grip headband, this cotton cap, and a velvet scrunchie.

Modest Caramel Outfit #1

Shoes: Vionic / Bag: Mark & Graham

In this ensemble, I've paired the headscarf with a dress by Nordstrom's house brand. The bodice and sleeves are a lightweight wool sweater knit, with an attached silky skirt.

A solid-colored dress with sleeves makes it easy to create a modest, monochrome look.

The bag

The leather tote bag is from Mark & Graham. It has many pockets and dividers, and came with a detachable shoulder strap.

When heading to the library to write, I stash my 13" laptop in the center zippered compartment.

Modest Caramel Outfit #2

Duster: Amazon Essentials / Skirt: made by me

Are you a three-piece outfit gal? If so, this one's for you.

The longline cardigan is by Amazon Essentials, in the colorway 'dark chestnut brown.' I have this duster in several other colors. It's made of a comfortable, lightweight cotton-modal blend.

Underneath the duster, I'm wearing a smooth, resilient t-shirt from Target. Isn't their knitwear the best? You can find a similar tee here.

This flowy midi skirt from Quince in the shade 'copper brown' would complete the trio beautifully. It's 100% silk, washable, and has an elastic waist.

The lip gloss

In the video above, I've complemented the scarf's caramel hue with Lisa Eldridge's Gloss Embrace in 'affair.' It's a semi-sheer shade of warm toffee.

I love that it's fragrance-free, and hydrating without feeling sticky.

Bonus: with a coordinating wool trench

Leaf brooch: Amazon

This beige wool trench is from luxe loungewear brand NAP. The large patch pockets are convenient for stashing your phone and keys.

You can find similar belted wool coats here and here.

The jewelry

Cardigan: Anthropologie, similar here

For earrings, I've chosen Swarovski yellow crystal pear-cut drops. The yellow tones flatter the warm shade of the headscarf.

The stones on the J.Crew necklace mimic those on the earrings. The oversize cocktail ring, also by Swarvoski, is simply the best. You can find a similar one here--it's at the top of my wish list.

The shoes

The perforated leather flats are by comfort brand Vionic. Because painful flats--what's the point?

I love the built-in arch support and elastic edging. You can find another pair like these here. This pair is also similar, and comes in medium and wide widths.

May your monochrome outfit bring you a technicolor day.
