Packing Modest Outfits for a Winter Vacation

Updated: Mar 6

Woman in modest winter outfit on mountain

I like to pack light. Really light.

My family and I recently vacationed at a lakeside cabin on a snowy mountaintop. I rolled up just a few garments and stowed them into a chic quilted gold duffle.

Weekend bag: Amazon

Modest Winter Outfits: How to Pack Light

Two dresses. Two dusters. Two headcoverings. Many modest winter vacation outfits!

Here's how you can adopt this system.

Oatmeal duster + taupe dress + reversible beret

Reversible cashmere beret: ZLYC on Amazon / Dress: Amazon Essentials / Duster: Style & Co, similar here and plus size here / Boots: Land's End, similar here

For the first look, I'm wearing a reversible cashmere-blend beret by affordable headwear brand ZLYC. It matches seamlessly with the soft terry tie-front dress in the color 'smokey grey.'

I love that the dress has mid-bicep length sleeves, so I can feel comfortable taking off the sweater when it gets too warm by the fire.

I've worn it so many times that it's started to pill. I brought my trusty pill shaver on the trip (when else would I have time for this?). Now the dress looks brand new again.

Swap taupe dress to navy dress

Navy dress: similar here

For the next look, just flip the reversible beret to the other side, and swap the taupe dress to a navy one.

The dress is a lightweight jersey knit t-shirt style. You can find a similar one here.

Swap oatmeal duster to navy duster

For the third look, I've swapped the oatmeal duster for a solid navy one. It's made of a cotton-modal blend, has two patch pockets, and hits my 5'4" frame at the knee.

I appreciate that it comes in sizes XS-6X, and over a dozen colors.

Swap beret to blue pre-tied

Pre-tied scarf: The Scarf Bar

For this next ensemble, I've swapped the reversible beret for a beloved dusty blue pre-tied scarf from The Scarf Bar. It has a velvet band stitched underneath the front edge to keep it in place all day.

A pre-tied scarf is perfect for my vacation brain, because no scarf-tying skills or mental effort is required.

Swap navy dress to taupe dress

Last, I've swapped the navy t-shirt dress for the taupe tie-front dress. I've also let the pre-tied scarf's tails loose for a soft drape around my neck and shoulders.

The Minimal Travel Makeup

I wanted look somewhat awake while lounging on the balcony and blasting down snowy hills. So I brought along just enough makeup for a pared-down version of my everyday look.

I'm a powder kind of gal, even in the winter. I packed a full size Laura Mercier setting powder, but will consider picking up the travel size for next time. I also forgot that I have this e.l.f. retractable mini kabuki brush.

I adore this mini magnetic shadow compact from MAC. I put in the lighter shade for lids and brows, and the darker as eyeliner.

Follow with a mini eyelash curler, and tame your brows with a disposable mascara wand.

Then you're ready to hit the slopes... or the Adirondack chair.
