Modern life demands novelty.

Like a tropical vacation, novelty breaks up the monotony of day-to-day living.

You can create it easily by blending two unexpected elements. Classical music and hip-hop. Chocolate and sea salt.

This ensemble blends exotic and preppy; matte with shine.

The headwrap

This teal and taupe reversible scarf is has an oversize paisley print. It's made of 100% pashmina fiber, a fine wool from the undercoat of Himalayan mountain goats.

Its surface is reflective like satin, and soft to the touch. The fringe on the short edges adds movement. At 70"x 27" it has the ideal dimensions for headwrapping.

It's made by Iristide, one of my favorite scarf brands on Amazon. You can read more about their scarves in my post "My Top 5 Scarf Shopping Websites."

The video tutorial: how to tie a pashmina as a headwrap

In the video below, I demo how to tie the pashmina with a shirtdress' fabric belt. Together they create a two-tone effect that unifies the headwrap with the dress.

The jewelry and shoes

I've paired the warm tone of the shirt dress with yellow gold jewelry and warm beige wedges.

I chose a short necklace for this look, because its choker length frames and flatters the headscarf.

I made the necklace with gold-lined seed beads and a slide clasp. You can find a similar, ready-made necklace on Etsy here.

The leather wedges by Cole Haan have yellow gold-toned accents over the cap toes. You can find similar shoes here and here.

I like to keep my footwear simple and solid-colored so it doesn't compete with the headwear--the main event.
